Harmony by the Sea Queenslander nestled in its tropical garden

Our story

A house built on love, sweat, sand, and sea breeze

Jill and Luke Melody on the beach at Bramston Beach
Jill & Luke Melody

Harmony by the Sea began as a dream shared by Luke and Jill Melody: a place where the old tropical beach-house spirit could breathe again, surrounded by the wild beauty of Far North Queensland.

They found it in Bramston Beach. A small, quiet community on the southern edge of the Cairns region, where the rainforest meets the Coral Sea and the pace of life still moves to the rhythm of the tides.

Nearly three decades have passed since they bought their vacation home. Over years of careful renovation, Luke and Jill poured their love into every detail, using upcycled materials where possible.
The result is a character-filled oasis that still feels like the FNQ of decades past;
unhurried, unspoiled, and deeply rejuvenating.

Today the house is both a family retreat and an occasional boutique stay for couples looking to disconnect, reset, and fall in love with the simple magic of beachfront living. There isn't anywhere else like this where all the beach front homes have no fences, with open ancient trees providing a canopy of shade directly onto the small dunes and expansive coastline.

What makes the house special

Hand-drawn carpenter tools and timber

Renovated with love

Luke and Jill Melody restored the home’s original character while adding the comforts that make a holiday feel effortless.

Hand-drawn pandanus, heliconias and orchids

Lush tropical gardens

Palms, heliconias, bromeliads and paperbark trees create a private green world between the house and the shore.

Hand-drawn timber verandah looking out to the ocean

Breezy beach-house living

A massive verandah and French doors open the lounge and dining area to the garden and sea breeze. Air-conditioning inside, excellent airflow, and undercover off-street parking keep every stay comfortable.

Bramston Beach

Bramston is a hidden gem within the greater Cairns region. Just an hour south of Cairns, 25 minutes to Innisfail or 20 to  Babinda, it offers a rare combination of accessibility and escape. There is no conveinience store currently operating at Bramston unfortunately but Mirriwinni is the closest for supplies, a beautiful short 16 min drive to the highway.

  • Absolute beachfront — no road between the house and the sand

  • Long, unpopulated beaches perfect for morning walks

  • Stinger-season swimming enclosure in the ocean

  • Local caravan park and a small, welcoming community

  • Innisfail is only 25 minutes south, with delivery options available from Woolworths
